Ahoy there! Get your pirate topic off to a great start with this great collection of 20 teaching resources on an easy to navigate CD.

 

All resources are in pdf format unless otherwise stated.

 

 

 

 

The planning pack includes a medium term overview, detailed short term activity plans, an example weekly timetable and proformas to observe child initiated play and then plan enhancements for the continuous provision.

 

The medium term overview details possible learning experiences, learning objectives and resources for each area of the EYFS curriculum.

 

The short term planning consists of a grid for each area of learning, showing learning objectives, resources learning experiences and 'look, listen and note' guidance. There are 32 learning experiences planned in total, suitable for a 6 week topic.

 

There are two sheets to make daily observations of your children during child initiated play, one for the classroom and one for the outdoor area. The third sheet allows you to plan enhancements to the continuous provision in response to what you have seen over the previous week.

 

This topic is suitable for Reception, although it could be adapted for younger children.

This resource consists of 16 numbered parrots (2 on an A4 page) - perfect for displaying around a pirate ship role play area.

They could also be used to make a number line or for a number hunt.

 

 

 

 

 

Learn to talk like a pirate with these 10 colourful A4 display cards.

Each one shows a different character saying a phrase that pirates might use.

Display the cards around a pirate ship role play area to inspire your children's imaginations.

A set of 9 A4 cards showing different ranks of pirates and a brief description of their role.

 

A useful card to add to the writing area during a topic on pirates. It shows 15 illustrations and words.

 

A PowerPoint presentation on pirates showing 5 slides of questions and answers.

 

A set of 12 cards showing pirate themed pictures and corresponding words. All of the words are phonically decodable, making this a great reading activity.

 

A set of 10 A4 cards each showing a treasure chest and a numeral from 1 – 10. Ask children to use the dough to make the corresponding amount of coins to fill the chest.

 

Ask the children to design a flag that they would use onboard their own pirate ship using this A4 sheet. It shows a clear flag outline ready for the children to draw their own ideas onto.

 

Help Captain Add’emup work out how many gold coins he has found. 25 A4 cards show a different addition sum, adding groups of between 1 and 5 coins each time. The cards are illustrated with the Captain and his two sets of coins, so children can count them to find the answer. They could be combined with real coins laid on top. There is space for the children to write the answer to each question.

 

As above, but focusing on Phase Three.

 

This resource is designed to support Phase Two of Letters and Sounds. Ask the children to read each word and decide if it is a real word or a made up word. They can make a collection of the real 'treasure' words.
