Planning on using Goldilocks or We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in literacy?

Offering fantastic value for money, this CD ROM contains 25 bear themed resources.

There are literacy and numeracy materials, as well as ideas for classroom displays.

All of the resources are in pdf format unless otherwise stated and the font used is sassoon primary. The CD has an easy to navigate menu, helping you to find each resource.

Below is a brief description of each item on the CD. If you would like more details about a particular resource, please feel free to contact me.

Bear Hunt

Bear Hunt Cards

This resource would be great for retelling the story of “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. Included are 6 cards, 2 on an A4 page, each showing a place in the story. The cards have a coloured background, illustration and description e.g. ‘long wavy grass’.

Bear Hunt Map

An A4 card showing the six places from the story on a green background. Underneath each illustration there is a line so that children could have a go at writing the name of each place.

Bear Hunt Word Cards

A set of 7 cards (2 or 3 on an A4 page) showing the main phrases from the story e.g ‘swishy swashy’. 5 cards display the sounds made at different points in the story, as well as a longer description of the cave and the four line repeated phrase ‘We’re going on a bear hunt . . .’ They would be great for shared reading of key parts of the text or to add to a classroom display.

Bears

Bear Alphabet

26 attractive bear cards (2 on an A4 page) each showing a letter of the alphabet in upper and lower case. Perfect for displaying around a writing area or for using on an ‘alphabet hunt’ around the room.

Bear Double Cards

A set of 6 cards showing doubles from 1 to 6. Each card is headed by a double e.g. 1 + 1 = 2 and has two groups of bears underneath to represent this. Great for whole class work or as a reminder around the room.

Bear Number Bingo

Develop numeral recognition with this fun number game. Each card shows a bears head surrounded by 4 numerals in paw print shapes. There are 12 boards in total – 6 using numerals 0 – 10 and 6 using numerals 11 – 20. Simply call out a number and ask the children to mark it off on their board if they have it.

Bear Number Game

A simple counting / numeral recognition game focusing on numbers to 8. There are two A5 game boards on a page, each showing 8 numbered paw prints leading to a bear. To play, ask children to roll a dice and cover the corresponding number of paw prints with counters or pennies. Continue until someone has covered them all.

Bear Number Lines

This would be a useful support material for numeracy activities. The first A4 page contains two number lines from 0 to 9 with a teddy illustration. The second shows two number lines from 1 to 10.

Bear Number Bonds to 5

6 A4 cards each showing a number bond to 5. The cards are split into a top section showing a number sentence e.g. ‘0 + 5 = 5’ and two lower sections showing the corresponding sets of bears.

Bear Number Cards

Create an eye-catching number line with these A5 teddy number cards. Each one shows a teddy bear with a numeral from 1 to 20 on his tummy. Odd numbers have a red border and writing, even numbers are in blue.

Bear Phonic Bingo

A great value set of phonic bingo consisting of 28 cards (2 on a page). The cards have a bear illustration and are broken down into colour coded sets based on the Jolly Phonics order of teaching. Bear Shapes

8 cards (2 on an A4 page) each showing a bear with a different shape on his tummy. Included are a circle, square, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, star, heart and semi-circle. Perfect to brighten the numeracy area up.

Types of Bear

10 A4 cards each showing a picture and the name of a different type of teddy bear e.g. scruffy bear, big bear, old bear, cuddly bear. They would be a good prompt for discussion focusing on similarities and differences between different bears.

Bear Peg Labels

Use these editable peg labels to create a colourful cloakroom area or self registration display. There are 30 labels (6 on an A4 page), each with a different bear picture, ready for you to type the names of your children into. This resource is a Word document.

Bear Tray Labels

Co-ordinate your pegs and trays by using these matching labels. Again, there are 30 colourful labels (7 on an A4 page) with bear pictures ready for you to add your children’s names to. This is also a Word document.

Goldilocks

Goldilocks Puppets

4 ‘stick type’ puppets designed for children to use when retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. There are 2 puppets on an A4 page, each showing a character from the story.

Goldilocks Size Matching

This resource would be a great activity when talking about size. It is an A4 sheet made up of 12 small cards showing the three bears and three different sizes of bowls, chairs and beds. Children could match the cards showing objects from the story to each of the bears to create sets.

Goldilocks Speech Bubbles

The first part of this resource is 4 A4 cards showing each of the characters from the story with a blank speech bubble. These could be used for shared writing or independent writing activities. Also included are 12 A4 cards showing the characters and the speech bubbles filled with key phrases from the story. These would make a great shared or guided reading activity.

Goldilocks Story Cards

Retell or sequence the story with these 23 A5 cards, each telling part of the Goldilocks tale. Presented on a blue background with simple illustrations, the cards would make an easy display or provide a prompt for group work.

Goldilocks Vocabulary Cards

A set of 8 A5 cards showing characters and objects from the story.

Size Vocabulary Cards

11 cards with a colourful rainbow border, each showing a term connected with size e.g. biggest, small. There are 2 cards on an A4 page.

Picnic

Bear Name Tags

Invite your children to bring a teddy into the setting for the day and use these tags to help them make a name label for their bear. There are two tags on an A4 page, with a picture of a child and her bear. They read “My bear is called” with space for the child to write underneath.

Picnic Playdough Cards

Add a little excitement to your playdough table by asking the children to make some dough food for these picnic cards. Framed with a blue border, they show a plate with cutlery around it. In the centre of the plate is a numeral from 1 to 10. There are 10 A4 cards in total.

Picnic Words

Use these cards to add some environmental print to a picnic role play area. Included is an A4 menu card and 5 labels showing objects that might be used on a picnic.

Picnic Writing Opportunities

Encourage your children to get involved in some mark making with this A4 menu, ready with boxes and lines in a list format. Also included are two differentiated A5 teddy bear’s picnic invites.

Also included on the CD is all the software needed to view the resources e.g. Adobe Reader.
