A collection of 22 teaching resources designed to support a topic on traditional tales. They are suitable for Foundation Stage and Key Stage One

All files are in pdf format and in Sassoon Primary font unless stated otherwise.

Writing Mats

A set of 4 A4 mats showing pictures and key vocabulary from Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Princess Long Ago and Goldilocks.

They would make great prompts to have on the table during writing activities.

Goldilocks Puppets

4 ‘stick type’ puppets designed for children to use when retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. There are 2 puppets on an A4 page, each showing a character from the story.

Goldilocks Size Matching

This resource would be a great activity when talking about size. It is an A4 sheet made up of 12 small cards showing the three bears and three different sizes of bowls, chairs and beds. Children could match the cards showing objects from the story to each of the bears to create sets.

Goldilocks Speech Bubbles

The first part of this resource is 4 A4 cards showing each of the characters from the story with a blank speech bubble. These could be used for shared writing or independent writing activities. Also included are 12 A4 cards showing the characters and the speech bubbles filled with key phrases from the story. These would make a great shared or guided reading activity.

Goldilocks Story Cards

Retell or sequence the story with these 23 A5 cards, each telling part of the Goldilocks tale. Presented on a blue background with simple illustrations, the cards would make an easy display or provide a prompt for group work.

Goldilocks Vocabulary Cards

A set of 8 A5 cards showing characters and objects from the story.

Cinderella Character Cards

A set of 5 illustrated A5 cards, each showing a character from the story of Cinderella.

The set comprises of; Cinderella, Prince Charming, ugly sisters, wicked stepmother and Fairy Godmother.

Carriage Ordinal Number Cards

Create a queue of carriages waiting to enter Cinderella's ball.

There are 10 cards included, each showing an ordinal number to 10.

Glass Slipper Number Cards

An attractive set of 21 number cards.

There are two cards on an A4 page, each showing a numeral from 0 - 20.

Odd numbers are in turquoise, evens in red and zero is in yellow.

Wedding Role Play Pack

After reading about Cinderella’s wedding, use these cards to create a wedding role play area. Included are 21 vocabulary cards to set up a wedding themed role play area with. Also provided is an A4 guest list template, A4 reception menu writing frame and A5 wedding invite frames.

Castle Role Play Pack

A great collection of cards to display in a castle themed role play area. There are two A4 signs, one reading

 Castle Number Line

  A set of 11 A4 cards, ideal for creating a bold number line.

Each card shows a castle numbered 0 - 11 and the corresponding number word.

A set of 5 illustrated A5 cards, each showing a character from the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Little Red Riding Hood Character Cards

The set comprises of; Little Red Rising Hood, Grandma, woodcutter, big bad wolf and Mum.

Big Bad Wolf Number Cards

This resource is a set of number cards showing numerals 0-20.

Each card shows the big bad wolf with a numeral underneath.

Little Red Riding Hood List

An A4 sheet asking ‘What would you put in the basket for Granny?’. Underneath is a picture of Little Red Riding Hood and 5 boxes and lines for the children to write their list.

Jack and the Beanstalk Speech Bubble Cards

They show 8 speech bubbles containing phrases that Jack, the old man, the cow or the giant might say.

Use the cards to generate discussion about which character would say each one and how they might be feeling at different points in the story.

This game is designed to support numeral recognition and counting to 9. It would make a great group activity, especially during a topic on Jack and the Beanstalk.

 To play, print each child a copy of the A4 game board and lay out a large collection of counters (pennies or buttons would work well). Each child throws a dice and places the corresponding number of counters on to the leaves on their board. Play continues until all of the leaves have been covered.

Jack’s Golden Egg Cards

A set of cards showing numbers 0 - 9 on golden eggs.

‘Fairy Tale Castle’ and the other advertising the prince’s ball. There are a further 18 illustrated A5 cards

showing vocabulary associated with a castle e.g. dragon, knight, banquet, throne, jester.

Princess Long Ago PowerPoint

An illustrated PowerPoint presentation with slides showing each verse of the song.

It would be useful for shared reading or retelling the story.
