If you are starting a topic on transport or just have a class full of children who are car/train mad, this is the resource for you!

 

 

This CD ROM contains 30 resources, making it great value for money.

The files are presented on an easy to navigate CD ROM, perfect for using time and time again.  All files are in pdf format and in Sassoon Primary font unless stated otherwise. 

Car Colours

11 A4 cards showing a racing car in different colours. Great for reinforcing colour recognition, these cards would make an easy display for the creative area. Each card is bordered in the corresponding colour and shows the colour word.

Car Park Game

Designed to support numeral recognition and counting to 6, this game would make a great group activity. Simply print each child an A4 car park board and a set of six vehicles. The car park spaces are numbered and each vehicle has 1- 6 spots. To play, ask the children to roll a dice and find the vehicle with the same number of spots. They must then match the vehicle to the parking spot showing the corresponding numeral. Play until all the vehicles have been parked. The cards could also be used as a matching activity.

Getting to School Tally Sheet

An A4 grid titled "How do you get to school?" There are 3 columns showing ‘method,’ ‘tally’ and ‘total’ ready for the children to conduct their survey with. Each method of transport is illustrated – walk, car, bus & bicycle and there is a space for ‘other’.

Ordinal Tags

A set of 10 ‘tags’ showing the ordinal numbers 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. I have used these when children are queuing to get on a ‘bus’ or ‘train’. There are two tags on an A4 page.

Plane Number Game

Print a copy of the A4 game board for each child who is playing. The board shows a colourful plane with numbered spots from 1 to 10. Children take it in turns to roll a dice and place the corresponding number of counters on their plane. Play continues until all of the spots are covered. This is a great game for adding by counting on and can also be played in reverse to teach subtraction.

Self Registration Cards

To aid name recognition, children are often asked to ‘self-register’ by placing their name into a basket or onto a display. These cards allow you to link this activity to a transport theme. The resource is an A4 document showing 6 cards, each with a picture of a form of transport – train, bus, boat, aeroplane, bicycle and car. The cards have an editable text box ready for you to enter the name of each child.

Traffic Survey

If you plan to take your children into the local environment to conduct a traffic survey then simply print off this ready made chart.  The first column shows different types of vehicles that might be seen - car, lorry, motorbike, bus bicycle.  The next two columns are for 'tally' and 'total'. 

Group Cards

If you decide to rename your groups using modes of transport simply type the name of each child into these A5 cards. They use the same illustrations as the self registration cards and are titled ‘Train Group’, ‘Boat Group’, ‘Bus Group’, ‘Aeroplane group’, ‘Car group’ and ‘Train group’.

Travel Tickets

These bus, plane and train tickets are a useful resource for the role play area. The bus tickets have spaces entitled ‘price’, ‘to’ and ‘from’ and are 4 on an A4 page. The plane tickets are the same size and read ‘origin’, ‘time of flight’ and ‘destination’ . The train tickets are two to a page and ask children to fill in ‘from’, ‘to’, ‘price’ and ‘adult/child’.

Tyre 5s

Support children who are learning to count in 5s with 11 A4 cards showing stacks of 5 tyres. Starting with a blank card labelled zero, each card then shows 5 tyres and numerals going up in 5s (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50). The font used is comic sans.

Vehicle Number Line

Create an attractive number line from these 11 A5 vehicle number cards.

Each card shows a different vehicle, a number from 1 - 11 and the name of the vehicle.

The fonts used are primary cheynes and tempus sans.

Wheel Game

Print a hubcap for each child who is playing (2 on an A4 page). In the spokes of the hubcap there are numbers 1-8 in order. Children take it in turns to roll a dice and place the corresponding number of counters around the hubcap. Play continues until all of the spaces are covered. This is a great game for adding by counting on and can also be played in reverse to teach subtraction.

Transport Letter Match

This literacy activity gives children an opportunity to match letters and words 12 pictures of different modes of transport. Each card consists of 2 boxes showing a vehicle and the initial sound of the word. Ask the children to match the sounds to the pictures.

Rocket Number Lines

This is a handy resource to keep on the table during Numeracy. The first sheet contains 4 rocket shapes labelled from 0 (base) to 5 (top). The second sheet has 6 rocket shapes labelled from 0 (base) to 10 (top). Great for reinforcing the order of numbers and to support children when counting backwards.

Train Phonic Bingo

Three sets of phonic bingo focusing on different groups of letters, all with a train theme. All of the sounds covered in Jolly Phonics are included. Each card is a strip (4 on an A4 page) with a picture of a train and then 3 sounds in boxes.

Car Number Bingo

Two sets of number bingo focusing on 0 –10 and 10 – 20. Each set consists of 6 boards of 4 numbers with a car border. There are two cards on an A4 page. Great for encouraging numeral recognition.

Road Sign Lotto

5 boards showing 6 road signs in a red border. This would be a useful resource for Knowledge and Understanding of the world when discussing the local environment. To play, print two copies of each board. Cut one set up to use as matching cards and distribute the other boards. Turn the matching cards upside down take it in turns to choose one. If it matches, children place it on their board.

Train Number Lines

3 number lines on an A4 page showing a train and the numbers 1 to 10 in the track behind it. The number line could be used for counting on or just to support children when the are recognising numerals.

License Plate Phonic Cards

An attractive resource to support children blend and read CVC words. Each card is designed to look like a license plate and shows a phonically decodable CVC word in black print. Ask children to say the sounds in each word and then blend them together to read the word. The are 12 cards in total (3 on an A4 page).

One More than Planes

A set of 10 A4 cards to support children in finding the number that is ‘one more than’ a given number. Each card shows a number sentence at the top e.g. 1 + 1 = , 2 + 1 = . Underneath, the page is split in two. The first sections shows the amount of planes in the beginning of the question. The second box shows one more plane. Ask children to count how many planes there are altogether to find the answer.

Ways to Travel Cards

Great for stimulating discussion, this is a set of 48 cards, showing different ways to travel. There are 6 cards on an A4 page, each with a colourful illustration and the name of the mode of transport. There are traditional and more unusual examples shown, from tractors, helicopters and vans to sleighs, unicycles and even a magic carpet! Children could sort the cards in different ways e.g. with wheels, on the sea, in the air.

Car Cards

36 cards showing words and pictures connected to the topic of ‘cars’. A fantastic way to introduce new vocabulary and extend children’s ideas. Included are words such as ‘Bonnet’, ‘Car park’, ‘Mechanic’ and ‘Tyres’ There are 6 cards on an A4 page.

Train Cards

21 cards designed to introduce vocabulary related to trains and railway stations.  They would look great displayed around a train role play area.  Words include 'Luggage', 'Ticket office', 'Refreshment trolley', 'Timetable' and 'Platform'. There are 6 cards on an A4 page.

Air and Sea Cards

27 cards showing words and pictures connected to boats and planes. The cards would be great for introducing vocabulary needed for an airport role play. There are 6 cards on an A4 page.

Places to Go

26 flashcards showing places from around the world. Included are locations such as New York, Russia, and Pakistan. Use them to develop role play by encouraging children to think of places to ‘travel’ to and think about how each place could be reached.

Ark Alphabet

Create an instant display with a set of 26 A5 cards showing each letter of the alphabet in upper and lower case. The letters are displayed on an ark picture.

Hot Air Balloon Numbers

Numerals 0 to 9 displayed on bright hot air balloons. There are two balloons on a page.

Rocket Tens

Reinforce counting in tens with a set of 11 rockets showing numbers in tens from 0 to 100.

Car Wash / Garage Role Play Resources

Use these signs to add environmental print to a car wash or garage role play. 8 A5 cards show key vocabulary – bucket, sponge, bubbles, car, till, rollers, nozzle and pump.
