The cards could be used to create an interactive display where children read each card, thinking about what happens when the magic 'e' is added.  Each word makes sense with or without the magic 'e' and is phonically regular.

The cards are colour coded according to the vowel sound that they focus on:

a-e (pink) - made, hate, mate, rate, scrape, cane, cape, tape

i-e (blue) - fine, dine, wine, pine, pipe, site, stripe

o-e (orange) - hope, robe, rode, note, pope

u-e (green) - cute, huge, tube, cube
